Max J. on twitter has revealed a bunch of leaks about the rumored OnePlus True Wireless Earbuds. The leaks show an all-too-familiar design – they look exactly like Apple’s popular AirPods. The case looks similar to the Pixel Buds 2 with a more rounded shape. Imitating the design of a very popular product has great benefits for makers of cheap clones, but major brands like Realme and OnePlus doing the same leads to a loss of brand identity. Other companies like Samsung, Google and Microsoft have experimented with different designs favoring confort and audio quality, but these seem to be pretty “boring” in comparison.
Specifications are unknown at this point, but expect a release in July and an affordable price point. Overall, OnePlus has been experiencing quite the loss in brand identity- going away from it’s “Flagship Killer” roots to more premium and flagship models. Pricing has increased too, except for in regions like India and the Middle East. With leaks like this further diluting the company’s uniqueness, I hope OnePlus finds it’s niche again soon.
