“Foldable” iPhone | A look into the future of iPhone

After getting his channel hacked by BitCoin scammers, Jon Prosser is back online with a new video – giving us details on what to expect for the future of iPhone hardware. There face been rumors of a foldable iPhone floating around for some time now, with a lot of fan-made renders enticing the general public. While the device Prosser talks about isn’t a true “foldable”, it’s still exciting nevertheless.

For starters, it’s a device like the Surface Duo. Meaning, it doesn’t have one continuous flexible screen, rather two separate screens joined by a fabric hinge in the middle. This seems rather unimpressive at first, but Prosser says the device has narrow bezels which provide quite a seamless experience once unfolded (unlike the Duo). There is also no notch, the TrueDepth system for FaceID will sit on a small chin on the front cover display.

The design will be reminiscent of the iPhone 11 series, with rounded stainless steel edges. There is no information on whether it will be a foldable tablet (like the Z Fold 2), or a foldable phone (like the Z Flip), but my bet is on a Z Flip-like form factor. Apple has apparently been working on the product for quite a while, so it’s definitely happening.

Unfortunately, and as expected, there’s no release date or pricing yet. With Apple Glass and the Apple Silicon transition coming soon, Apple has their hands full for the next year or two, but I’d still remain hopeful for a Q4 2021 reveal and Q1 2022 launch. Considering the Surface Duo is priced at $1399, people will be enticed to think this product will be at that price or higher. But, considering Apple’s recent pricing strategy I’d say it would be around the price of a Pro Max model. It will also be interesting to see how iOS will have to evolve to suit this two-screen form factor.

Hoping Prosser gives us more details as time goes on, and hoping Tim doesn’t kill him.
