Galaxy S21 | Leaks show new design directions

The Galaxy S20 series wasn’t known for its design finesse. While the front looked great with minimal bezel, the back design, especially the camera arrangement, was vague and looked cheap. The colors were pretty boring as well. Samsung did a complete 180 with the Note 20 series, especially the Note 20 Ultra — which is one of my favorite smartphone designs till date.

Leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer has created some new renders based on the Galaxy S21 Leaks, and they look unique, to say the least. Samsung has taken the defined camera rings from the Note 20, while creating a new camera bump design which extends from the top left corner.

Here, we see a 360 spinning view render of the S21 design. It features 3 defined camera rings in the new camera bump, with a flash outside it. The screen it flat, and seems to have thicker bezels compared to the ultra.

The S21 Ultra follows the same design principles as the S21, but with a much larger camera bump which includes one extra lens and the flash. This camera arrangement does annoy me a bit, as there’s empty space on the bottom right corner of the bump, which is accentuated by the defined camera rings. Honestly, the S21 camera arrangement looks much better. The screen will be curved, and have thinner bezels than the S21.

A new design direction?

Samsung is surely trying it’s best to stand out from the competition. While I’m not a huge fan of this design, but it’s miles ahead of the S20 series and comes close to the Note 20. Case makers might have some trouble, as the camera bump will start at the curved left corner.
