WWDC20 | June 22nd, from your home

Apple’s 31st WWDC conference is scheduled for the 22nd of June. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the conference will be a web-based virtual experience, accessible to all developers via the Apple Developer app or website for free. They’ve also announced the Swift Playgrounds Challenge, encouraging student developers to create their own Swift Playground and showcase their coding capabilities.

Expect updates about everything software related – iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS and WatchOS. Along with showing off new versions of these operating systems, there’s a likely chance that a new NFC chip based hardware product called “AirTags” will be shown off at the event, based off of reports by Jon Prosser.

With almost every conference now going virtual due to the pandemic, it has the fortunate side effect of making these types of events accessible to a much wider target audeince. Without expensive plane tickets or hotel rooms, will a virtual experience be part of every conference from now on, even after the pandemic?
